Leg Swings tutorial
Leg swings are a dynamic stretch that warms up the hips, hamstrings and front of the thighs. They are widely used before running, leg training and ball sports.
How to perform
- Stand beside a wall or support and hold it with one hand.
- Stand on the leg nearest the wall with a soft knee.
- Gently swing your free leg forward and back.
- Gradually increase the range without rounding your back.
- After 10 to 15 swings, face the wall and swing the leg side to side; then switch legs.
Breathing: Breathe naturally and steadily.
Key tips
- Start with small swings and gradually make them bigger.
- Keep your upper body tall and still.
- This is a warm-up move; do not kick hard or jerk the leg.
Common mistakes
- Swinging too hard from the start.
- Rounding the back to get the leg higher.
- Locking the knee of the standing leg.
Safety: If you have hip or hamstring pain or a recent muscle injury, keep the swings small and stop if it hurts.
